2011 NHL Fantasy - Goalies
In getting ready for the 2011-2012 NHL season, we brought in McKeen's Hockey Pro Scouting Coordinator Gus Katsaros to break down some of the major players, breakthroughs and sleepers in NETS in the NHL. Some of the topics tackled were:
- Eastern conference
- Can Carey Price be as good this season as he was last season? Will he need to be with the defense in front of him?
- - Tim Thomas was amazing last season; will he even come close to what he did last year? Is Tukka Rask a good sleeper pick?
- - Ryan Miller is a great goaltender and he will probably have the best defense he’s even had in front of him. Can he be the best goaltender in the NHL statistically speaking this year? (Note: I think he will be the best fantasy choice out there among goaltenders)
- - Does Jacob Markstrom have a chance to crack the Florida Panthers lineup or will the team go with two vets (Theodore and Clemenson) while their team matures.
- - How good will Bryzgalov be with the Flyers?
- - Is Jason Reimer the real deal in Toronto?
- - How will the Capitals split their goaltending duties between Vokoum and Neuvirth?
- Western Conference
- - It seems like goaltenders performances tend to fluctuate more than other players. Is that statement fair or is it just the nature of the position that gives people that impression?
- - Is Montreal-born Corey Crawford ready to shine as #1 goaltender in Chicago?
- - Colorado paid a heavy price to acquire Semyon Varlamov from the Capitals. Will that acquisition prove to be a good one for them?
- - Will Steve Mason rediscover his game this season for Columbus?
- - Do you still see Kari Lehtonen as a risky pick for the Dallas Stars or do you think his injury issues are a thing of the past?
- - John Quick as done a great job in L.A. but Jonathan Bernier is considered a goaltender with a ton of position. How do you see that battle shaping up?
- - Is there any chance at all that Mike Smith can be a number one goaltender in Phoenix?
- - Do you think Jaroslav Halak had his best season in 09/10 or can he possibly match it?
- - At some point, huge contract or not, will Cory Schneider steal some starts from Roberto Luongo?
