Impact Awards Banquet - Recognition and Optimism

Montreal Sports - Montreal Impact

The Impact’s 2009 awards banquet was a lively, optimistic love-in of sorts as all in attendance were chatting up the scenario of Montreal’s chances of winning the USL championship on home field.

Stalwart midfielder David Testo won the MVP, gritty leader and defensive pillar Nevio Pizzolitto was named devensive player of the year, shifty and nimble defender Stephen deRoux got newcomer of the year and tenacious and imposing defender Adam Braz was awarded the team’s unsung hero award.

First Semifinal game goes to Montreal

Montreal Sports - Montreal Impact

Two goals in the first half allowed the Montreal Impact (5th) to a 2-1 win (halftime 2-1) against the Puerto Rico Islanders (3rd) Thursday night, in front of 9,835 spectators at Saputo Stadium, in the first match of the USL First Division semifinal round.

While Montreal, who was ahead 2-0 prior to the end of the first half, would have preferred heading to Puerto Rico with a two goal cushion, they will be more than content with the 1 goal advantage heading into hostile territory for the final game of the home and away series.

Scorers for Montreal were Tony Donatelli and Roberto Brown while Jonathan Steele tallied for the Islanders.   All the info and stats in the official Impact game recap
