Impact Captain Mauro Biello Retires

During a sincere, heartfelt speech in front of much media, family, friends and some teammates, Montreal Impact team captain Mauro Biello announced his retirement, Thursday at Saputo Stadium, ending a 19-year career in professional soccer, including 16 seasons in the Montreal uniform.

The Montreal Impact confirmed today that one good deed does, in fact deserve another.

After taking over a team that looked to be well on its way on a downward spiral, from a coach (John Limniatis) who was arguably a media darling, and turning them around, taking them all the way to the USL D-1 championship, Marc Dos Santos officially had the word “interim” removed from his title.

If there was any doubt that Joey Saputo and the members of the TOA (Team Owners Association) were only grandstanding when they mentioned starting a new league if needed, today’s announcement may make some take notice that they mean business.

Montreal is, once again, the city of Champions thanks to the Montreal Impact.

The Impact took advantage of a penalty kick and a one man advantage from the 29th minutes to put this second game of a two game aggregate goals affair out of reach from a dumbfounded Vancouver Whitecaps team.

It was a back and forth affair filled with goals, near misses, a controversial call and lots of great soccer, but in the end, The Montreal Impact got the result they were looking for against the Vancouver Whitecaps and are bringing a 3-2 tally home to Montreal for game 2 of the USL championship finals.

VANCOUVER, British-Columbia – The Montreal Impact (5th) plays the first of a two-game final of the USL First Division against the Vancouver Whitecaps (7th) Saturday at Swangard Stadium at 9:30 pm (ET) in the first all-Canadian final in history. The match will be webcast live on the Radio-Canada Sports website and will be broadcast in progress on Radio-Canada Television, starting at 10:30 pm (ET). The game can also be followed live on FOX Sports World, 98.5 FM and THE TEAM 990.
