Wreck MMA - Fight for the Troops - Results
The Franchise was live and at ringside for Wreck MMA's first MMA promotion, Fight For The Troops. It was a simple, but fan-friendly set up with 4 big projection screens above the ring so that everyone can see all the action. Denis Kang and Patrick Côté signed autographs for the fans before getting into the corners of Nabil Khatib and Fabio Holanda respectively. Robin Black did another great job as in-ring announcer; he's got some style in calling out the names of fighters, and gets so passionate watching the event, that he just says what most of us are thinking when he does his post fight interviews, instead of the regular bland questions. On to the results:
Sean Pierson survives being knocked down early, to get back up, regroup himself, and KO's Fabio Holanda at 1:41 of Round 1. Check your phone Sean, that may be the UFC calling you for a date on May 1st in Montreal with a win like that! *
Mark Holst wins by a very controversial TKO over Nabil Khatib at 4:21 of Round 1. "The Thrill" Khatib was hardly that as he contested loudly. In the post fight interview conducted by Robin Black in the ring, Nabil declared that he had been knocked down before, was not really heard, and never tapped when Mark Holst applied a rear naked choke. But the referee called the match seconds earlier, and was simply not quick enough to stop Holst from getting behind a prone Nabil Khatib, and locking in the choke. Holst said that he would accept a rematch, if Khatib would drop to 155 to face him.
Nick Denis got rocked by Sean Quinn, who continued to throw everything but the kitchen sink. Maybe he should have. Nick Denis not only regains his faculties, but manages to drop Quinn at 3:42 in Round 1.
Igor Gracie submits the sacrificial lamb Chris Vorano by Rear Naked Choke in Round 1, 1:50.
In an amazing display of advanced MMA jiu-jitsu, Roland Delorme and Remi Morvan battle in a hard fought, back and forth chess match until Delorme checkmates Morvan by submission (Arm Bar) in Round 1
Louis-Philippe Carle avoids a spinning back kick by Yannick Galipeau, takes Galipeau to the ground, and then takes his arm for the submission win (via Arm Bar) in Round 1, 0:45. I think he still has Galipeau's arm with him now.
Wrestling expert turned out a superb striking clinic as Mitch Gagnon pummels Stephane Bernadel in the corner, and then slaps on a Guillotine to win at 0:38 of Round 1.
Josee Aupry catches Anna Barone and wins by TKO at 0:13 of Round 1. Anna Barone is a warrior, and wanted to keep fighting, but I was at ringside and had a clear line of sight into her glazed eyes. For her safely, the fight should have been, and was, stopped.
Josh Hill defeats Randy Turner by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-25).
John Cholish defeats Benoit Guillonet by TKO in Round 2. I think it was a very disappointing end for Guillonet, who I felt won the first round easily, but didn't show the same kind of warrior spirit as Anna Barone after getting rocked.
The Franchise Bests of the Night (unofficial awards)
Fight of the Night: Nick Denis vs Sean Quinn
Submission of the Night: Roland Delorme over Remi Morvan
KO of the Night: Sean Pierson over Fabio Holanda
