UFC 129 Predictions
Gary Whittaker is in Toronto representing The Franchise, and along with Fightworld.TV, we will be bringing you all the fun and glamour that is coming out of the city during UFC weekend! Of course, it's about UFC 129, which is headlined by Montreal's own Georges St-Pierre as he prepares to defend his UFC welterweight title against longtime rival, Jake Shields. Here are Gary Whittaker's predictions on how the fights will go down on April 30th:
Georges St. Pierre vs. Jake Shields for the UFC Welterweight Championship
Prediction: GSP
Why: Yes, Shields has phenominal BJJ, but the man does not have enough skills to set GSP up for a fall unless GSP wants to go to the mat. The biggest issue would be how much GSP cares about his streak where he hasn't ;ost a round in like 15 years or so. Either way, he won't be too worried about losing this fight. He needs to not only win, but win convincingly in order to get the momentum he needs for a super-fight against Anderson Silva.
Jose Aldo (No. 1 FW, No. 3 PFP) vs. Mark Hominick for the UFC Featherweight Championship
Prediction: Jose Aldo
Why: As much as Toronto would love to see their native son Hominick win gold in the UFC, he simply does not have the chops to match up against someone of Aldo's calibre. The machine will be broken before the end of the 1st round.
Randy Couture vs. Lyoto Machida (No. 4 LHW)
Prediction: Machida
Why: Machida is not over 100 years old. I have all the respect in the world for the Natural, but Lyoto will win by ground and pound submission, something that would never have happened even 3 years ago.
Benson Henderson vs. Mark Bocek
Prediction: HendersonWhy: I don't see the Ontario natives being too succesful this weekend. Sometimes just being able to fight in front of your friends and family is satifaction enough
Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Jason Brilz
Prediction: Jason Brilz
Why: He is not 100 years old.
Prediction: Rory MacDonald
Why: Nate is not his brother. Rory ain't no clown.
Prediction: John Makdessi
Why: While I am concerned about Watson's size, Makdessi it too focused, too talented, and too ready for Watson.
Sean Pierson vs. Jake Ellenberger
Prediction: Sean Pierson
Why: The only Ontario native I predict will win on Saturday night. BTW, he spends time training at Tristar
Prediction: Yves Jabouin
Why: Yes, that is a homer pick. Both are explosive fighters and it should make for one exciting match
Ivan Menjivar vs. Charlie Valencia
Prediction: Ivan Menjivar
Claude Patrick vs. Daniel Roberts
Prediction: Claude Patrick
Jason MacDonald vs. Ryan Jensen
Prediction: Jason MacDonald
