UFC 129: Ivan Menjivar vs Charlie Valencia Signed
Sources close to the situation have confirmed to Gary Whittaker of The Franchise that a deal has been signed between Ivan Menjivar, who fights out of the Tristar Gym in Montreal, and longtime WEC veteran Charlie Valencia for UFC 129 in Toronto. As we first reported earlier this week, "The Pride of El Salvador", Ivan Menjivar (21-8), will get another chance to win in the UFC. Having lost to Matt Serra back at UFC 48, and then again by unanimous decision in the Zuffa owned WEC to Brad Pickett, Menjivar may be seeking his first win against Charlie Valencia (12-6). A long time WEC veteran, Valencia has won 5 of his 9 fighters in that organization, but is coming off a loss to Miguel Torres, who is now a Zahabi MMA teammate of Ivan Menjivar.
UFC 129 is expected to be the biggest event in UFC history, with a potential to absolutely smash the record set at the gate in Montreal (just over 23 thousand fans) at UFC 124. The Rogers Center can hold over 55 thousand fans, although no word yet on how it will be set up for this event. The Franchise's official MMA segment, The Weigh In, will keep you current on all the UFC 129 news, as well as any MMA information coming out of Quebec.
