Nov 13 THE FIGHT FORECAST: VERA VS. COUTURE

The Ultimate Fighting Championships has once again taken the leap over the pond. Tomorrow night fight fans will be treated to "The Natural" Randy Couture, as he takes on "The Truth" Brandon Vera in a light heavyweight tilt. Couture is coming off back-to-back losses in the heavyweight division to Brock Lesnar and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, this time around he will be at a more comfortable and better weight for him at 205 pounds. At UFC 103, Vera recorded his second consecutive win in the 205 pound division over up-and-comer Krzysztof Soszynski in a well fought battle.

Ever since his last lost to Keith Jardine at UFC 89, Brandon Vera has looked stronger and more focused in each of his fights. A win over Couture could springboard Vera into the 205 contenders but Brandon shouldn't look past the crafty veteran. "The Truth" should utilize his powerful leg kicks early and try to take away Randy's first step. It will be no surprise that Vera will want to keep this bout standing.

Even in defeat, Couture looked solid against Nogueira and the much bigger Lesnar. For a 46 year-old, Randy still looks like a spartan. In his training camp for Vera, Couture has gone back to his roots with a lot of wrestling. Instead of trying to bully around bigger men with his wrestling like Lesnar, Couture will find more success with the lighter Vera but may pay for it when shooting in.

The Split Decision: Great fight ahead of us and a tough one to pick. Both guys have their pros and cons that could easily decide the winning factor in this fight. I think when it comes down to it though, Vera's striking will overcome Couture. Brandon looks hungry and ready to make a big statement while Couture seems to wanna fight but with no real interest in the 205 belt or heavyweight belt. My pick is Brandon Vera by first round TKO.
