The Fight Forecast: Hamill vs. Jones

Written by Jordan Small. Posted in Blogs - The Rumble

The Ultimate Fighter "Heavyweights" came to a conclusion earlier this week. The tenth season's finals will feature the last IFL heavyweight champ, "Big Country" Roy Nelson and former NFL player, Brendan Schaub. In the TUF 10 Finale headliner a battle of light heavyweights as rising star, Jon "Bones" Jones, looks to build on his impressive start in the UFC. Third season of The Ultimate Fighter alumni, Matt Hamill, will try to drop the hammer on Jones' hype train when they clash in a three round showdown.

In his first two bouts with the UFC "Bones" Jones exhibited in the eyes of many, potential of being the future of the light heavyweight division. With dominate victories over UFC vets, Stephan Bonnar and Jake O'Brien, Jones has created a lot of buzz for himself in the mixed martial arts world. The unique and explosive offense of Jones has posed problems for past opponents. Jones should want to keep this bout standing and will need to continue to search for openings to unleash his fire power.

From an out-of-nowhere head-kick KO over Mark Munoz, Hamill is hungry to break into the 205 pound contenders list with a win over Jones. Having the benefit of viewing two of Jones' UFC fights, the innovated striking won't be a surprise to Matt. However, Hamill should take this fight to the mat where he can utilize his wrestling. Ground and pound could be a receipt for success against Bones.

The Split-Decision: The future is NOT now. Hamill by split-decision.

Gary Whittaker's 2 Cents: Hamill has done very well in MMA despite his disability. However, Jones is a top talent who's trainers can literally tell Jones what to do step by step should Hamill get Jones in trouble on the ground. Not only that, but Hamill just thinks he is a better boxer than he really is. Jones wins this by KO, Round 2.
