Strikeforce Quick Results
UFC may arguably have the best talent in the world, but Strikeforce fighters sure know how to entertain the audience. The main event was full of action, drama, and a major surprise that, as a result, may have a Quebec native rise to the top of the pound for pound rankings as a result.Strikeforce also took the time to honor a great veteran of MMA, in Frank Shamrock, who would rather retire than face his brother in a match that almost no one wanted to watch.
Main Card
Fabricio Werdum defeats Fedor Emelianenko by Submission (Armbar) at 1:09 of Round 1.
In my opinion, Fedor simply did not take Werdum or his BJJ skills seriously, and as a result, was submitted in a way that no one believed possible. Werdum did not just quicly catch Fedor in an arm triangle, but spent more than enough time working it for someone of Fedor's calibre to realize what he was attempting. I have been saying for the longest time that I did not believe Fedor's opponent's have been worthy, and now Fedor losses in a manner that would never have happened had he continued to fight the best in the world.
Cung Le defeated Scott Smith by TKO at 1:46 of Round 2
Cung Le gets revenge for an earlier loss to Smith, in a fight which he dominated as well. Now, if he can only work on his defence! Exciting fight for the fans, but an example of how UFC fighters, expecially at that weigh class, are far superior in their technical skills. Smith's best wins are from seemingly having been on the verge of being TKO's himself, and catching his opponent coming in to finish him off.
Cris “Cyborg” Santos defeated Jan Finney by TKO at 2:56 of Round 2
The referee really dictated the action in this fight, for the most part, making sure it was kept standing. Jan Finney may be asking for an apology from the ref though, since this fight should never have gone to the 2nd round. Sometimes fighters need to be saved from themselves.
Josh Thomson defeated Pat Healy by Submission (Rear Naked Choke) at 4:27 of Round 3
Nice win over a very tough veteran fighter for the "Punk".
Undercard
Chris Cope defeated Ron Keslar by TKO at 4:32 of Round 2
Bret Bergmark defeated Vagner Rocha by Unanimous Decision
Yancey Medeiros defeated Gareth Joseph by TKO at 1:19 in Round 2
Bobby Stack defeated Derrick Burnsed by Split Decision
