St-Pierre Named Fighter of the Year
The 2009 World MMA Awards took place last night in Las Vegas last night and was streamed live on Versus.com The top award of "Fighter of the Year" last year went to Anderson "The Spider" Silva, but this year the voters selected Quebec's own Georges "Rush" St-Pierre. Also nominated this year was Mike Brown, Brock Lesnar, Lyoto Machida, and last year's winner, Anderson Silva. GSP thanked everyone that has surrounded him in his career, including his training partners, coaches and of course, Mom and Dad. St-Pierre also wanted the trophy to stay at his parent's house, but according to a tweet from Ariel Helwani, who was backstage interviewing all the fighters, the fighters were required to give back their awards. Apparently a very drunk Diego Sanchez refused to gave back his, and left early.
