SILVA HEADED TO STRIKEFORCE
Former Elite XC heavyweight champion, Antonio Silva, will return to American soil and make his Strikeforce debut on November 7th. Antonio will be appearing on the CBS special “Fedor vs. Rogers” on network television. Widely known as “Big Foot”, Silva will be welcomed to Strikeforce by fellow Brazilian and Jiu Jitsu guru, Fabricio Werdum. Both men are looking forward in the rankings in the Strikeforce heavyweight stable that already features top ranked, Fedor Emelianenko and Strikeforce champion, Alistair Overeem.

Fighting exclusively in Japan since his failed drug test for Elite XC last year, Silva has accumulated a 2-0 record with the Sengoku promotion. Most recently defeating Jim York by first round submission at Sengoku 10. Rumours had swirled that Silva’s next opponent would have been another shamed drug test failure, Josh Barnett. It was thought that the two would fight for the Sengoku heavyweight title but many fans poked fun at the idea of the “Steroid Championship title”.
Since being knocked out in the first round and then being knocked out of the UFC last year, Fabricio Werdum hasn’t been the most active fighter. Werdum’s first fight back after almost a year of sitting on the sidelines was on the Gina Carano vs. Cris Cyborg card in August. Werdum scored a first round submission over fill in fighter Mike Kyle. His scheduled opponent that night was current champion, Alistair Overeem but a tussle in Holland that left five bouncers in the hospital and Alistair with an injured hand resulted in the Demolition Man being unable to defend his title.
The winner of the Werdum and Silva bout will almost certainly face the loser of the Fedor and Brett Rogers fight.
