Ringside 7: No Escape Card Update - Taylor To Replace Heiland
(For immediate release) – June 6th, 2010, Montreal - Ringside MMA is announcing a change to the fight card for No Escape, scheduled for Friday, June 18th, at the Centre Pierre-Charbonneau in Montreal.
Joe Heiland, who was to face Derek Gauthier (6-1-0), has unfortunately suffered an injury during training camp (fractured hand), and will therefore be unable to compete in his schedule fight against the young Quebec star. In his place will be Torrance Taylor (8-7-1), a veteran of the Strikeforce Challengers series, and a fighter who has beaten such notable fighters as UFC veterans Luke Caudillo, Junior Assuncao and Jason Dent. Taylor did lose a fight to Heiland in 2008, which was followed up by a 2nd loss against Fabricio Cameos. He was able to bounce back by stopping Matt Covan in round 1 (submission due to strikes), but subsequently loss via split decision against Glenn Brown in his last MMA bout. Thirsting for a win, Taylor no doubt sees this fight against Derek Gauthier as an opportunity to get back to his winning ways. Despite the fact that Gauthier is coming off a win in an impressive performance against Jason Rorison, this will be a tough assignment for the young Quebec star, as Gauthier will be facing the most experienced MMA fighter he has ever competed against. Both fighters have agreed to a catch weight of 160 pounds.
