Ringside 5 - Triple Threat - January 30th

Written by Gary "Rumble" Whittaker. Posted in Blogs - The Rumble

Ringside MMA's mission is to build and develop great local talent, and provide MMA fight fans with a great fight experience. To my knowledge, never has a MMA promotion looked to promote a "Tripe Main Event" in Quebec, and Ringside is looking to do just that in their 5th MMA Gala on January 30th, 2010 at the Centre Sportif Claude Robillard.

For all 3 Quebec fighters in the main event, De Lorenzi, Gauthier and Ricci, is it not a question of if they will ever fight in the UFC, but when. All 3 have explosive, well rounded talent, and all 3 are poised for greatness. Which of these 3 will emerge as the brightest star?

Guilaume de Lorenzi: After losing a fight to the infamous War Machine (in part, due to injury suffered in the match), "Il Toro" dropped to 155 and got right back to his aggressive ways. He looks to physically dominate his opponents through his aggressive take-downs and brutal ground and pound. Guillaume is gaining his experience from fighting opponents from over seas lately. His last opponent was from France, and now England will be taking their chances in putting up Tim Radcliffe (8-3) against de Lorenzi.

Derek Gauthier: His body seems to be his worst enemy. Injuries have limited him to 5 fights in 3 years, as he has had 2 long layoffs due to injuries suffered in training. However, this undefeated fighter in 5 professional fights was once called “the Next GSP” because of his look and his style of fighting. Tyler “TNT” Jackson (8-6) is no stranger to Quebec fight fans. He has fought 5 times in Quebec, but has only won once. Gauthier will be looking to keep it that way.

Mike Ricci: You have to love the kind of swagger that comes with Mike Ricci. He walks around and cool just follows him wherever he goes. He is slick, and he knows it. He’s never worried both in and out of the ring. He takes his time with his opponents, setting up what his coaches want him to do, and then takes advantage of his opponent’s mistakes to get the kind of finish he wants as well. The West (Alberta) already sent one of their prized fighters in Jordan Mein to put a blemish on Ricci’s record, but he was unsuccessful. Now Saskatchewan takes their shot with prospect Kurt Southern (5-2)
