Ringside 3 - Battle for the Belts Awards
Here are the official Franchise awards from Saturday night's Battle for the Belts Ringside III card. Fighters are not compensated financially, nor are these official from Ringside.
KO of the Night: Steve Bossé over Craig Brown. It had to be one of the most devastating KO's in Quebec MMA history!
Submission of the Night:Lee Villeneuve over Jeff Sharkey. Villeneuve proved that persistence pays off when he would not let go of a guillotine choke. Sharkey held on as long as he could maintain consciousness, which he ultimately lost.
Fight of the Night: Réjean Groulx and Jeremy Gagnon. A fantastic story unfolded in the octagon for hardcore MMA fans. Gagnon is a phenomenal wrestler who used his base, strength and force of will to survive Groulx for 2 rounds before turning the tables! Unfortunately time was against him, and the Groulx was saved by the bell, much like Gagnon had been saved the same way in the first two rounds.
Full Results were covered by new contributor to the Franchise, Sebastien Krafft
This was another triumph for Eric Champoux, President of Ringside MMA, and matchmaker Alex Caporicci. The event had the usual suspects of Quebec MMA in attendance, Jonathan Goulet, David Loiseau, and Steve Claveau. Also in attendance was XMMA Light Heavyweight Champion Martin Désilets, who continued his campaign for a match against Bossé by wearing another anti-Bossé t-shirt.
Thierry Quenneville had received our fight of the night honors in his last 3 matchups, but he was not helped by Paul Reed, or the officials who had problems refering matches all night. This includes an instance of being stood up while having Reed's back in the 2nd round. While Reed was a much stronger fighter, Quenneville was more skilled in every other facet of the match. Reed came to fight however, and would love a chance to came back to Montreal to show what he can do.
A runner up for fight of the night had to be de Lorenzi versus Hawkes. Guillaume de Lorenzi was coming off knee surgery and having to cut a substantial amount of weight for the first time in his career, yet that did not stop him from his gameplan of manhandling Hawkes for 2 completes rounds. Hawkes was able to prevent most of de Lorenzi's take down attempts in the 3rd round, which led to an entertaining stand up exchanges between the two fighters.
