Quebec Hockey Summit Announcement

Written by Amanda Stein. Posted in Blogs - The Rumble

Today marked the announcement of the first ever Quebec Hockey Summit. Last summer there was an Ontario Hockey Summit in Toronto, before that there had not been a hockey summit in Canada since 1999.

The event will take place at the Centre Bell on August 26th and 27th, brought to you by the partnership between Hockey Quebec, Hockey Canada, the QMJHL, The Montreal Canadiens and Molson.
The summit, open to the public is the first of it's kind in Quebec and has 4 headlines in which it will operate:

1. Long term development of hockey players. Looking at positives and negatives of development in Quebec etc.

2. Development of a program of excellence:  For players 16 years and older.
3. Respect and player security: Looking at headshots, concussions, the use of proper body checks and how to protect ones self on the ice. Injury education as well.
4. Recruitment and retention of Quebec hockey players: looking at the tendancy for young Quebec hockey players leaving the province, essentially skipping out on the QMJHL. They'll look at new initiatives to prevent this from occurring, as well as looking at the development of quebec women hockey players.

Further details for public participation and full outline of events to be announced at a later date.

In attendance today:

Sylvain Lalonde - Director of Hockey Quebec

Scott Smith -   Cheif Operating Officer of Hockey Canada
Gilles Courteau - QMJHL Commissioner
Pierre Gauthier - Canadiens GM
David Bourget - Director, Trade Marketing and Events with Molson

Report filed by TEAM 990 Reporter Amanda Stein for the TEAM 990.
