OVEREEM: I WANT TO FIGHT FEDOR

Written by Jordan Small. Posted in Blogs - The Rumble

During the post-fight interviews for Dynamite!! 2009, Strikeforce heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem, announced what his plans are for the upcoming year.

"I want to fight Fedor (Emelianenko) in May or June. (Fedor) is my primary target from now on, I'll be training for him and for him only," said Overeem.

Alistair also confirmed that his timetable to meet Fedor in May or June was in the works.

Strikeforce will be airing an event on the CBS network in April but Overeem is obligated to fulfill prior agreements with K-1 in March. Alistair said he felt that he needed more time to prepare for such an important bout with the world's top heavyweight.

In Overeem's bout at Dynamite!! 2009 against Pride veteran, Kazuyuki Fujita, Alistair only needed over a minute to finish the fight. Overeem destroyed Fujita with a bone-cracking knee to the face, as the bout was immediately called as Fujita fell threw the ropes and hit the mat.
