MMA LEGALIZED IN ONTARIO

Written by Jordan Small. Posted in Blogs - The Rumble

Well it's official, MMA is legal in the province of Ontario.

The McGuinty government has announced mixed martial arts competitions will be allowed within the province's borders. McGuinty finally realized the economic benefits MMA events would bring to the province.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has booked the Rogers Centre for March 2011. It could easily hold 60, 000 plus fans in attendance for the UFC's first appearance in Ontario.

This is truly a big step forward for mixed martial arts in North America. Legalization in Ontario could prompt New York state to take the next step as well.

This sets up Canadian mixed martial arts promotions like Warrior One and Maximum Fighting Championships to expand to Canada's largest market. And of course, the Ultimate Fighting Championships can showcase the highest level of talent in Ontario.

Now that MMA is legal in Ontario, talks are surely in process of bringing Canadian welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre to Toronto for March 2011. GSP on stage in front of 60, 000 enthusiastic MMA fans is something I want to be a part of!
