
MMA - Canadian Content Wrap Up - Jan 11
Every Monday, the Franchise will weigh in on all the major news and rumours impacting Canadians in the world of MMA
The phone lines lit up across Quebec as soon as the UFC announced their intentions of returning to Montreal for a 3rd time in the form of UFC 113 on May 1st, 2010. The card is expected to be headlined by a rematch between current light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida and Mauricio Rua. There has also been talk about the much hyped match up between Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Rashad Evans being added as well. As far as Canadian content is concerned:
- Ariel Helwani was the first to report that the camps of Jonathan Goulet and Marcus Davis have verbally agreed to a match at UFC 113.
- Also rumoured to be fighting is Sam Stout against Jeremy Stephens, accoring to MMA Junkie. "Hands of Stone" Stout put on a striking clinic against TUF alumni Joe Lauzon at UFC 108 for his 2nd straight win in the UFC, bringing his record in the UFC to 4-4. Stephens is coming off a victory of his own in the UFC against Justin Buchholz.
- Patrick "The Predator" Côté had previously been asking to be added to UFC 113, and has recently alluded to an announcement being made in the near future regarding his return to the UFC.
Mark "The Machine" Hominick not only got his first win in the WEC on Sunday night, but it was his first submission victory over an experience grappler in almost 4 years.
Martin Désilets (LHW Champion for the now defunct XMMA), has signed to fight Victor Valimaki for Valimaki's TFC Light Heavyweight belt at TFC 10 on March 19th, 2010. Valimaki was previously unable to defend his belt at TFC 9, having left required medical attention due to a dramatic weight cut. Valimaki reportedly has made changes to his diet and nutrition regiment, in order to come better prepared to make weight in the future.
Mark "Boots" Holst will be leaving Canada after a very hotly contested stoppage, due a championship contest in very hot Dubai. He will be competing for the XKL lightweight championship on February 20th.
Will "Leon" Romero joins Bellator's 8 man featherweight tournament beginning in April
Ringside - Triple Threat match between Stephane Chrétien and Andew McInnes has been scrapped. A replacement match is being set up. Ringside Triple Threat will be held in Montreal on January 30th.
