Markov Explodes, Halak Shines, Habs Win!

Written by Gary "Rumble" Whittaker. Posted in Blogs - The Rumble

What a difference 35 games makes...that's how long it has been since Andrei Markov has been in the line up. Since then, the Canadiens have won 15, lost 18, and had 3 OT losses. The Canadiens team that beat the Islanders 3-0 tonight was definitely not the same team that has lost its last 5 games.

Not only did Markov lead the Canadiens in goals tonight with 2 (both on the PP), but he was 3rd on the time in minutes played at just over 20.

The Canadiens relied on Halak, who stoned the Islanders on 40 shots, but also on their PK, who defended on all 5 chances (technically 6 with Lapierre's penalty with 3 seconds left in the game). This included a double minor to Moen in the 3rd period.

Canadiens now go into Atlanta who currently sit 4 points ahead of Montreal and have 3 games in hand. Montreal recently lost to the Thrashers in OT on December 12th.

Here are the full games reviews from The Canadian Press, Habs Inside Out, and the Gazette
