King Of The Cage canceled in Halifax-By Derek LeBlanc

Written by Derek LeBlanc. Posted in Blogs - The Rumble

It was on and over just in a flash. King of the Cage: Decadence was set to take place August 1st at the Halifax Forum but was canceled yesterday by the Nova Scotia Boxing Authority. The main event was to feature Tristan Johnson against Nick Denis for the featherweight title. The event was canceled for various reasons.

"The company (KOTC) has obligations to deliver to us for their 14 day meeting and they didn't have all those met," says Micky MacDonald, head of the Nova Scotia Boxing Authority.

"They didn't have the contracts, they didn't have the medicals and they didn't have a full card so we can't sanction an event that close to the event with having all those things in place. At the end of the day, it is the consumer that suffers. We have 30 day meetings and they have to deliver so many deliverables and then a 14 day meeting which they have to deliver the rest and the didn't have the requirements to meet the sanctioning for the event."

This hasn't been the first time this year this has happened in the province of Nova Scotia. King of the Cage tried to put an event on May 22nd but fell into the same problems. MacDonald said that numerous companies have this problem in both mixed martial arts and boxing events. Another canceled event was American Boxing promoters Standing Eight Productions for not getting enough sponsors. When I contacted King of the Cage Canada CEO Ken Kupsch to get his side of the story, he said he would not comment at this time until he spoke with his lawyer. Although Kupsch would not comment at this time, Kevin Young, an administrator on the facebook group released this statement on the event's facebook page last night,

"We had an issue with the Nova Scotia Boxing Authority tonight and regret to inform you the event has be canceled! I would offer our apologies but I think that is better reserved for the NSBA. From day one they have had an issue with this event and have been acting uncooperatively with us. King of the Cage will be promoting another venue in Atlantic Canada in the near future and would like to offer all the fighters from this card a chance to fight in our cage!

To all our fans, we will continue to put on some of Canada's best MMA shows for you and hope that you will all get to see a show near you in the near future!"
