Impact Blank Rhinos 2-0
Can this be a repeat of last season's USL Championship run? Hopes are high again after the Impact defeated longtime rival and the best team in the USSF in the Rochester Rhinos 2-0 at Saputo Stadium tonight. Last season began with much controversy, and then after a coaching change and some roster moves, the Impact came together in time to make it into the playoffs and took it all the way to win a championship.
This season also began with much controversy, but with the exception of a coaching change, the team used found a way to work together with the talent they (re)acquired, and have now put together 2 straight wins, in which they have outscored their opponents 7-0. Ali Gerba was the star tonight though, as he netted his 6th and 7th goals of the season, which matches his career high with the Impact. Montreal now sits in the 6th seed for the playoffs, 2 points ahead of the Puerto Rico Islanders, who hold 3 games in hand. Montreal will face the Islanders next in Puerto Rico on September 8th. Montreal will be the well rested team, as Puerto Rico will have played 3 games between tomorrow and September 8th.
