Dec 13 Halifax MMA Fighter Found Dead in his Home, Now Being Treated as a Homicide

A Halifax mixed martial arts fighter has passed away. Timothy John Kelly was pronounced dead* after arriving at a Halifax hospital late Saturday night. He was found lying on the ground with multiple wounds at his home around 10pm after police were called. When they arrived, they noticed that there was a hole in the door which looked like the size of a bullet. Halifax police did not say how he suffered the wounds. They are treating this a homicide until more information is found out.

 

 

The 45 year old middleweight fought out of Titans gym where his record stood at 2-5. Most of Tim Kelly's fights were for Extreme Cage Combat but also he had fought for Elite 1 and Maximum Fighting Championship. Tim's last fight was a decision win against Corey Boone at ECC 10: Demolition back in September which many fans considered it to be the fight of the night.

 

Kelly did the sport for the pure love of it. He showed more heart than most fighters I have seen in the cage. I was able to find the last time I talked to Kelly at the official announcement for ECC 10 where I asked why he decided to mixed martial arts at his age.

 

"I enjoy the sport and I enjoy the friends I made through it.  Its the whole socialization thing.  I enjoy going to the club everyday, I enjoy the guys I train with, the guys I fight with.  It's like fulfilling a dream every time I step in the cage win or lose."

 

Kelly never even took his money from the fight as he would usually donate it to gym.  Besides fighting, Kelly owned a used car dealership in the Sackville area.  He was loved by his teammates,family and friends and will sadly be missed.

 

An autopsy will be done tomorrow and results will be released later in the week.
