Habs: Josh Gorges Out For Season
Montreal Canadiens GM Pierre Gauthier announced to members of the media late this afternoon that Josh Gorges will miss the remainder of the season due to a knee injury which will require surgery. Gorges was probably the Habs' most consistent defenseman this season, and has 7 points in 36 games with 18 minutes in penalties. Gorges will be a restricted free agent in the off season, and will only be 27 in August. Gorges has played 268 games as a member of the Montreal Canadiens since being acquired, along with a 1st round pick, for Craig Rivet and a 5th round pick in February, 2007. In that time Gorges has scored 8 goals and 41 assists for 49 points and is a career +10 with the Canadiens. He has also emerged as a solid number 3 through 5 defensemen who can go out against the opposing team's top line when needed, as well as being instrumental in helping the Habs have one of the league's best penalty killing units.
