End of the Road for Warrior Jonathan Goulet
At approx 11am this morning, Jonathan "The Road Warrior" Goulet announced his retirement from professional fighting via his Facebook fan profile. Jonathan Goulet is coming off a loss by way of Knock Out at the hands of Chris Clements while fighting for Ringside MMA's first welterweight title. This was Goulet's first, and only championship match in his long MMA career, which saw him fight in the UFC 9 times among his 35 professional fights. The Road Warrior has fought the likes of Josh Koscheck, Marcus Davis, Mike Swick and holds wins over notable fighters such as Shonie Carter, Jay Hieron, John Alessio and Jeff Joslin.
From Jonathan Goulet:
which translates to:
I took the time to sleep on the decision circulating in my head since last night, and I have decided to hang up my gloves. I think that this is enough for me. It is time I move on to other endeavors. I want to thank everyone for my incredible career and tell you that you have been the best fans in the world.
While no official medical document has been released or commented on by Jonathan Goulet, we have long speculated the Weigh In MMA segment that Goulet has suffered multiple concussions in his career, an injury which experts have told us is simply not possible to recover from fully. While people who have suffered concussions can be clear of any symptoms, the likelihood of getting another increases dramatically, since the brain significantly losses the ability to protect itself each time trauma is suffered.
If this is the case, retirement is the best, and really only option for him. Jonathan Goulet has been a role model for many MMA fighters as he has consistently supported the industry in Quebec through his training, coaching and attendance at so many professional and amateur shows. We hope to follow up with Jonathan Goulet on a future episode of The Weigh In web show, to talk about the highs and lows of his career, the incredible journey taken by the Road Warrior.
