DIAZ GETS HIS SHOT AT GOLD
Mixed Martial Arts fans were treated to a surprising announcement of an exciting match-up in the welterweight division. In-your-face, MMA bad boy, Nick Diaz, will have his chance to claim Strikeforce gold as he will compete for the vacant welterweight title on January 30th. Diaz's opponent is one of the most thrilling and devastating welterweights today, Marius Zaromskis.
In August, Diaz was scheduled to face Jay Hieron for the Strikeforce welterweight title but failed to show up. Since then, the signing of DREAM welterweight champ, Zaromskis, had made it only a matter of time before the vacant welterweight title would be put back into the mix.
Both fighters are riding winning streaks as Diaz last submitted heavy handed, Scott Smith, in the third round of their catch weight bout. Zaromskis' last three bouts have ended via head-kick, most notably to Hayato Sakurai and Jason High in the same night to win the DREAM welterweight tournament and belt.
