De Lorenzi, Guillet To Face UFC Veterans at Ringside 9
Two of Quebec's best prospects, Guillaume de Lorenzi and Samuel Guillet, will have an opportunity to turn the heads of the international promotions when they face UFC veterans at Ringside 9: Payback. Current Ringside Lightweight champion Guillaume de Lorenzi and former XMMA lightweight title contender, Samuel Guillet have been slated to face 2x UFC veteran Junior Assuncao and 5x UFC veteran Shannon Gugerty respectively. Ringside MMA will hold their 9th event, titled "Payback", on November 13th, 2010 at the Centre Pierre-Charbonneau in Montreal. This event will mark a return back to Montreal, as Ringside will be holding their next event on August 7th in Beauport, Quebec.
Guillaume "Il Toro" de Lorenzi (9-1) has only had 1 loss in his pro MMA career, which was at the hands of a former UFC fighter in Jon Koppenhaver, AKA War Machine. Since then, de Lorenzi has rattled off four straight wins, which saw him drop to lightweight from welterweight, win the Ringside lightweight title against one of Western Canada's best prospects in Ryan Machan, and walk through UFC veteran Dale Hartt to an easy win. This will be de Lorenzi's 2nd title defense against a fighter in Junior Assuncao who has himself won his last 4 fights. Assuncao has faced the likes of Nate Diaz, Kurt Pellegrino and gave highly regarded UFC fighter Dustin Hazlett the first loss of his career.
Not to be outdone, Samuel Guillet's opponent, Shannon Gugerty, has fought the last five of his fights in the UFC, with wins over Matt Grice and Dale Hartt. Gugerty has already fought Cub Swanson twice, and had matches against Clay Guida, Terry Etim and Spencer Fisher. Guillet is no slouch himself. He has won 5 of his last 6 fights, including his last 2 since his comeback in 2010. Guillet has already had superior ground skills, but with the addition of a new striking coach, Guillet now finds himself a much more improved, and well rounded fighter.
Also expected on the card is Alex Garcia vs Tyler Jackson, and Lenny Wheeler vs Christopher Boisvert.
