
Carey Price Named NHL's First Star
PRICE, CROSBY AND SEMIN NAMED NHL 'THREE STARS' OF THE WEEK
NEW YORK (November 15, 2010) -- Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey
Price, Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby and Washington Capitals
left wing Alexander Semin have been named the NHL 'Three Stars' for the
week ending Nov. 14.
FIRST STAR -- CAREY PRICE, G, MONTREAL CANADIENSPrice posted a 3-0-0 record, 1.00 goals-against average, .970 save
percentage and one shutout as the Canadiens (11-5-1) extended their lead in
the Northeast Division to four points. Price recorded 34 saves for his
second shutout of the season in a 2-0 victory over the visiting Vancouver
Canucks on Nov. 9, outdueling Canucks goaltender and Montreal native
Roberto Luongo. He posted a second consecutive 34-save performance in a 3-1
victory over the Boston Bruins Nov. 11 and finished the week by making 28
saves in a 7-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes Nov. 13, Montreal's
first regulation win over Carolina at Bell Centre since Dec. 6, 2003. Price
improved to 10-5-1 with a 2.18 goals-against average, .923 save percentage
and two shutouts in 16 appearances this season.
SECOND STAR -- SIDNEY CROSBY, C, PITTSBURGH PENGUINS
Crosby tallied eight points (three goals, five assists) last week,
helping the Penguins (9-8-1) win two of three starts. Crosby notched
multiple points in each game, starting with a goal and two assists in a 7-4
loss to the Boston Bruins on Nov. 10. He recorded one goal and one assist
in a 5-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning Nov. 12 and added three
points (one goal, two assists) in a 4-2 win over the Atlanta Thrashers Nov.
13. The Penguins captain, who has collected multiple points in each of his
past five games, ranks second in League scoring with 27 points (12 goals,
15 assists).
THIRD STAR -- ALEXANDER SEMIN, LW, WASHINGTON CAPITALS
Semin joined Crosby atop the weekly scoring list with eight points
(four goals, four assists) as the Capitals (13-4-1) won three of four games
and concluded the week first in the NHL overall standings. After tallying
one assist in a 5-3 win over the New York Rangers Nov. 9, Semin recorded a
five-point night in a 6-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning Nov. 11,
highlighted by a third-period hat trick, a pair of assists and +3 rating.
He tallied one assist in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Buffalo Sabres Nov. 13
and closed the week by scoring his 13th goal of the season in a 6-4 victory
over the Atlanta Thrashers Nov. 14. Semin ranks among League leaders in
goals (second, 13) and points (fourth, 23).
