Canadiens Vs Senators Preview

Here's what you need to know about the Montreal Canadiens taking on the Ottawa Senators

The Montreal Canadiens are about to start what may be considered a playoff push critical back to back games against teams just ahead of them in the Eastern Conference standings. So, before the Canadiens can even start thinking about going to New York to face the Rangers on Sunday, the Canadiens will have do their best to give a rude welcome to the Ottawa Senators on Saturday. The Senators just broke a 5 game losing skid with a 2-0 win over the Rangers Thursday night.

The Canadiens have only beaten the Senators once in three attempts so far this season.

Halak does hold a win against the Senators this season, but Carey Price did register an assist in their last game against the Stars.

The Senators have a "Mike" Brodeur in nets, and he has only let in 1 goal in 2 games this season. With Pascale Leclaire out and Brian Elliot letting in 10 goals in his last 3 games, I will predict Brodeur, who is coming off a shut out, will be in nets.

The Senators have scored 8 times against Montreal, with 7 different players, including former Canadien Alex Kovalev.

The Canadiens are coming off a very emotional game, one which saw a number of Habs give Carey Price a hug at the end of the game. Brian Gionta scored 2 goals in what was his 500th NHL game, while Georges Laraque scored his first NHL goal. Laraque was especially emotional given the devastation in Haiti, where he still has family living today.

Scott Gomez has has 1 goal and 3 assists in his last 3 games. His linemate, Gionta, failed to even register a shot against the team he played for last season, and his 3 goals in his last 3 games. Rounding of the "2 and 1/2 men" line is Pouliot, who has scored 3 goals and 1 assist in his last 4 games.

Can someone please find Tomas Plekanec? Pleks has not been credited with an assist since Dec 23rd, and has now gone from 2nd in the league in assists to 5th. In fact, Plekanec has not been credited with any points so far in 2010, and has been a -2 in 5 games. Linemate Michael Cammalleri finally broke out of his 4 game slump with 1 goal and 1 assist against Dallas, and has scored 3 goals in 3 games against the Senators. Coach Martin is still auditioning for their 3rd linemate. Moen, D'agostini and Lapierre all auditioned for the role in the game against the Stars.

The 7:42 played by Georges Laraque is the most ice time he has received since Dec 3rd. No word yet on if the goal celebrations have resulted in an upper body injury.

Daniel Alfredsson is nearing his return to the team, but it is considered highly unlikely that he will be ready in time for Montreal.

The Senators really need Alfredsson to jump start their power play which is currently ranked 30th in the league.

Does anyone remember Kovalev scoring 4 goals this year? That was 6 games ago. Since then he has had 3 assists, but has been a -8! I wonder if he will still be cheered if he nets the winning goal. Well, maybe if it is against Carey Price....
