Calvillo named Offensive Player of the Week

Written by Gary "Rumble" Whittaker. Posted in Blogs - The Rumble

We knew Anthony Calvillo wanted to not just win against the BC Lions, but make a statement in their win that the Alouettes will steamroll through teams on their way to only their 2nd Grey Cup in 7 attempts. Well, the CFL was certainly impressed as the league named Calvillo their Offensive Player of the Week. I doubt Calvillo will spend any time at all thinking about this award, since the only one he has eyes for will be to win the big win in Calgary. Read on for the press release:

Montreal, Nov. 24, 2009 - The Canadian Football League announced today that Montreal Alouettes' quarterback Anthony Calvillo has been named the league's Offensive Player of the Week following his performance in the Alouettes' 56-18 East Division Final win over the BC Lions last Sunday at Olympic Stadium.

Calvillo matched a CFL playoff record by throwing for five touchdowns in the win. The Eastern nominee for Most Outstanding Player finished the game 19 of 28 for 312 yards and five touchdowns against just one interception.

He twice found both Jamel Richardson and Brian Bratton in the end zone, while Kerry Watkins caught his other TD pass. The 56 points scored by the Alouettes were the most in franchise playoff history.

The Alouettes will face the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the 97th Grey Cup this at 6:30 p.m. (Eastern) this Sunday, Nov. 29 in Calgary (RDS HD, TSN HD, CKAC SPORTS, CJAD 800 AM).
