BULLDOGS SHUT OUT; COACH COMMENTS ON HABS PROSPECT
Fists were flying to start off but Hamilton wasn’t given much to cheer about for the rest of the game as Adirondack blanked the Bulldogs 4-0.
Hamilton looked sluggish on the ice on Saturday night when they were outhustled and outplayed by the Phantoms. Hamilton split back-to-back games as on February 4th, Ryan White got the game-winning goal against Grand Rapids.
Hamilton’s All-Star goalie, Chris Sanford, allowed three goals on just 14 shots going into the third but head coach Randy Cunneyworth said he wasn’t going to pull him.
“More of what happened out there against us was more of what we were doing in front of him or more of what we weren’t doing in front of him,” said Cunneyworth.
“Those were situations that we didn’t manage well and going the other way they did a much better job managing us offensively. We basically got outworked.”
The coach also commented on the play of Montreal Canadiens prospect, White, who was recently assigned back to Hamilton after playing three games with the Habs.
“I think what you see out of Ryan White is what you get. He’s a workhorse; he’s a guy who wears his emotions on his sleeve, that’s him,” said Cunneyworth.
“He plays that way; he’s a guy that won’t take any guff’; he’s a good hard-nosed two-way player.”
The 22-year-old White is easily the most physical player on the Bulldogs and a guy every team would want on their roster. In fact, it was White who dropped the gloves with Zac Rinaldo just one second into the game.
Unfortunately, this only sparked the Phantoms, as Mike Testwuide and Denis Hamel would score in the first.
In the second, the Bulldogs continued to lack energy and it showed in a terrible power play. The Phantoms’ Hamel would score another goal later in the period.
Late in the third period with Hamilton’s net empty, Hamel completed the hat trick.
