Canadian MMA fans got their first taste of Bellator Thursday night, as Montreal native Mike Ricci made his international debut in Chicago against Pat Curran. Here is the synopsis of the fight by Canadian Pro Fighter, who was at the event:

Canadian Mike Ricci vs. Patrick Curran


One of our Canadian Hopes for a championship in the tournament, Mike Ricci is a GSP protege and an amazing fighter all on his own.
The main card has begun and the atmosphere is buzzing, 

Pat Curran winner by KO at 3:01 of the first round and advances to the second round of the tournament.

Mike Ricci walks out and looks poised and ready, Pat Curran walks out and is looking fit and ready for war.
Mike Ricci has a clear height and reach advantage, a few kicks exchanged but a slow start, Ricci is circling and Curran is trying to close the distance.  Curran is beginning to press the action, Ricci looks annoyed by the kicks, very different body types for the same weight class, WOW impressive KO win for Curran, out of nowhere a huge combo ending with a right hand has Ricci out cold and the doctors are now attending to him as he lies on the floor.   Ricci gets up and shakes it off, he leaves the cage on his own.

While disappointing, their was still a huge outpouring of support for this young prospect from many of the Quebec MMA elite like UFC veteran Jonathan Goulet, Jonathan Chaimberg, Steve Claveau, Stephane Vigneault and many others. Quebecors are well known for the resiliacy and ability to come back much stronger after a defeat, and we at The Franchise have no doubt Mike Ricci will continue that tradition.
