AOKI WANTS MELENDEZ IN SEPT. IN JAPAN
From dud to dazzling, Shinya Aoki rebounded like a true champion with a first round foot lock submission over Tatsuya Kawajiri at Dream.15.
After the belt was handed back to Aoki, he jumped on the microphone and addressed the crowd and audience watching at home. Aoki said he intends on fighting Strikeforce lightweight champ Gilbert Melendez on September 25 at Dream.16.
This would be a rematch between them after Shinya was heavily criticized for his head-scratching five round display in Strikeforce last April. Aoki immediately expressed his disappointment with his performance and wanted a rematch when the time was right. Apparently that time is September 25th and in his own backyard.
Many expected a rematch with Melendez and Aoki would eventually come to Japan under the Dream banner even before they fought in April.
Aoki also announced during his mic time, that he would be getting married, as his fiancee sitting front row watched on in tears.
