Als Defeat Riders in Dramatic Fashion to Win the 97th Grey Cup
Montreal Alouettes were the best team in football all year, but you wouldn't know when you were watching the 1st half of the Grey Cup. The only bright spot on the Alouettes in the first half was Avon Cobourne, who kept trying to rally the troops despite a very shaky first half from Anthony Calvillo. In fact, even when AC was completing passes to his receivers, they were almost never on target and could just as easily have been dropped. But Cobourne remained a steady presence throughout the entire game, be it through his ability to rush the ball for 85 yards and 1 touchdown, or in the air with 6 catches for 64 yards. He was named the most valuable player in this years edition of the Grey Cup
.Ben Cahoon was named most valuable Canadian in the Grey Cup, and received boos from the high number of Roughriders fans in attendance who no doubt felt that Saskatchewan wide receiver Andrew Fantuz was more deserving. Both players had 5 catches in the game, but it was Cahoon's 5 yard TD reception that helped the Alouettes get to within 2 points of the lead.
Duval, who had the best season ever for a kicker, had his worst game as a punter. He shagged two punts that helped give Saskatchewan great field position in the 1st half of the game of the game. But he more than made up for it when he kicked the game winning Field Goal only a few seconds left on the clock on his 2nd attempt. Fortunately for Duval, the Roughriders had too many men on the field when he made his first attempt which missed. He gave Montreal's their only lead in the game, but that's really all that mattters.
Here is TSN's commentary on the game.
Here is another report from CBC
Of course, make sure to check out the Team 990's own Sean Campbell, who is live in Calgary and has been blogging on Missed Field Goal
The Alouettes have already announced the date, time and location for the Grey Cup Parade in Montreal!
