Alouettes Free Agent List
The CFL released the full list of CFL players who will become free against should they not be signed by their respective teams before 12:01am ET on Tuesday, February 16. While I cannot speak for the rest of the CFL teams, the Montreal Alouettes will have decisions to make as their list contains both key players and rising prospects.
Anthony Calvillo: Obviously, the decision on whether or not he resigns with Montreal will depend on the results of his surgery in the off-season. Calvillo shocked fans and TSN panel alike when he announced moments after winning the Grey Cup that doctors had found a lesion in his thyroid gland that would require surgery to be removed. Assuming he received a clean bill of health, you can expect the Alouettes to get him under contract.
Avon Cobourne: The running back saw a decline in his numbers this season, a point he was vocal about, but still remains a potent 3 way threat (running, catching and blocking). The versatility shown by the former linebacker turned running back while make him a major commodity if left to the open market.
Chip Cox: Cox was a huge defensive player for the Alouettes this season, making his presence felt in every game he played. He was able to almost single-handedly change the momentum of games at times this season.
Damon Duval: Duval had an amazing career for the Montreal Alouettes, and I have his contributions are honored in a pre-game ceremony where he announces his retirement.
SJ Green: It is hard to believe that this wide receiver who showcased highlight reel catches throughout the reason would not be sought after by every time in the CFL It's also hard to believe that neither he, nor his agent would be keenly aware of this fact. But it is also hard to believe that the Alouettes can give Green the minutes he deserves, when you consider that Jamel Richardson was the CFL Grey Cup MVP, and Kerry Watkins are two of Calvillo's favorite receivers.
