Alouettes 2 for Saskachewan in Grey Cup, winning 21-18

Written by Gary "Rumble" Whittaker. Posted in Blogs - The Rumble

It was a fired up, angry Alouettes team who took the field in Edmonton today and it was a fired up, celebratory Alouettes team who left the field with a 21-18 victory to win the 98th edition of the Grey Cup. Montreal felt disrespected with inferior hotel accommodations, with Calvillo not being named MVP, by the local media, the fans, and maybe even by TSN's poll for play of the year which was not won by SJ Green phenomenal touchdown case, but instead of a standard open field catch by Weston Dressler. So it was collectively as a team that the Alouettes banded together with strong performances on the ground (Cobourne picking up 2 TD's), in the air ( with both Richardson and Green getting over 100 yards) and on defense (Billy Parker with a game clinching interception).

Anthony Calvillo had a strong performance throwing for 336 yards, despite having a lesion on his thyroid which will require off season surgery. The doctors identified the lesion in his throat after the game in Winnipeg in Week 8 which caused him to miss 2 games. He bravely stated that he expects to be back next season, but obviously it will be pending the results of the tests on the lesion once it has been removed. It is expected that the doctors will have to remove at least half of his thyroid. The operation will take place within the next 2 weeks in California.

Calvillo's favorite target all season was Jamel Richardson, and it was no different in the Grey Cup. Richardson was named Grey Cup MVP after making 8 catches for 109 yards.
