2011 FA Frenzy - Budaj to replace Auld

Written by Gary "Rumble" Whittaker. Posted in Blogs - The Rumble

He's big, he's bald, he's....gone! Last season's backup goaltender Alex Auld has been replaced by former Colorado Avalanche goaltender Peter Budaj, who has been signed for 2 years and 2.3 million to the Montreal Canadiens. The Habs basically have spent an average of 15% more money for a goaltender who they hope will not be called upon to play any more than 15% of the games this regular season. Meanwhile Alex Auld will be used for spare parts over in Ottawa with the Senators, as he signed for the same 1 year, 1 million dollar deal that he signed last year with the Canadiens.
