Voltigeurs School Juniors in 6-2 Win

Written by Nick Murdocco. Posted in Blogs - Nick Murdocco

All good things come to an end as did the Montreal Juniors’ 2 game winning streak. The abrupt halt to this string against the division leading Gatineau Olympiques and Quebec Remparts was created by the number One team in the QMJHL, the Drummondville Voltigeurs. The visitors to the Verdun Auditorium skated away with a 6-2 victory

The Juniors only managed 18 shots on goal to Drummondville’s 41, including a 19-4 differential in the second period.

Montreal gave the Voltigeurs 2 goals on 6 power-play chances while the home team actually went 1 for three on their opportunities; however it was a net domination from a top tier team to a middle of the pack troop that still appears to be searching for its identity.

Please read on for the official Juniors’ press release.

Top ranked Drummondville Voltigeurs defeated the Montreal Juniors by the final score of 6 to 2.  The Voltigeurs had the lead in the first and never lost it.  Voltigeurs Sean Couturier and Alexandre Comtois led the way with two goals each.  Juniors forward Jeremy Gouchie had a goal and an assist.

Voltigeurs opened up the scoring in the first when center Sean Couturier scored his fourteenth of the season at 1:03 from Philippe Lefebvre and Jonathan Brunelle.  Juniors tied the game on the power play at 10:11 when defenseman Vincent Bourgeois fired one past goaltender Antoine Tardif from forwards Matthew Brenton and Jeremy Gouchie.  Drummondville dominated the second period with 19 shots.  Just three minutes into the second, the Voltigeurs took a 3-1 lead with two quick goals by centers Alexandre Comtois and Gabriel Dumont.

In the third, Comtois scored his second of the night when he wristed the puck over goaltender Jake Allen at 2:18.  The Juniors answered back shorthanded when forward Jeremy Gouchie tapped in the loose puck in front for his seventh of the year at 6:13 from Matthew Brenton.  Just 21 seconds after, the Voltigeurs got one right back as Sean Couturier scored his second of the night on the power play.   Drummondville forward Philippe Bergeron added another one for the Voltigeurs at 8:11.   That was the last goal of the match as the Drummondville Voltigeurs defeat the Juniors 6 to 2.

Juniors goalie Jake Allen made 35 saves and took the loss.  Voltigeurs goalie Antoine Tardif  took the win as he stopped 16 shots.  The Voltigeurs are now to 18-3-0-1 while the Juniors fall to 11-10-0-1.

The Montreal Juniors will on the road for their next two games.  They will head to Rouyn-Noranda to face the Huskies on November 13th and the Val-d’Or Foreurs on November 14th.  The Juniors will return to Montreal and face the Halifax Mooseheads Friday, November 20th at 7:35PM.  The Juniors will then take on the Shawinigan Cataractes in the Auditorium on Saturday, November 21st at 4:05PM.
