Impact coach, Marc Dos Santos had recently mentionned that changes were needed after one of their past losses in Minnesota and it would appear that these changes have begun.

The Montreal Impact announced the release of defender Kevin Sakuda and forward Pa Amadou Gai, as well as the addition of midfielder Ciaran O’Brien, on loan from the Colorado Rapids of MLS.

Sakuda, a 27-year-old American defender and veteran of the USL who spent six consecutive seasons with the Seattle Sounders before joining the Impact, played a total of 838 minutes in eight matches with Montreal.

“It wasn’t fair to play Kevin in a position that wasn’t natural for him,” explained Impact Technical Director Nick De Santis. “He never found his rhythm with this team, despite the fact that we put him in a number of roles. He was with us for a short time, but he was a true professional with a great attitude and that was appreciated by the club.”

Amadou Gai, on the other hand, was more of a case of not finding his niche with the city and the team.

“We already have four forwards in our lineup and we sensed that Pa had a hard time integrating the team,” commented De Santis. “Getting accustomed to a new culture didn’t seem to be easy and he wasn’t satisfied in this new setting. Taking these circumstances into consideration, we decided to make a roster spot for a future prospect.”

The Impact also announced the addition of midfielder Ciaran O’Brien to the lineup. O’Brien is on loan from the Colorado Rapids of MLS until the end of the USL season (October 17).

The 21-year-old American was also loaned to the Seattle Sounders in 2008 and the Austin Aztex earlier this year. A condition that Colorado can recall O’Brien at any time this season was part of this loan agreement.

“Ciaran is a young player with a lot of potential,” said De Santis. “The two international matches he played [on try-out] showed signs that he has good vision on the field and lots of energy. He’ll gain quite a bit of experience with our club and we hope he’ll be able to help us in different situations.”

Ciaran is the Impact’s first acquisition since the opening of the international transfer window on July 15.

The Impact's next game will be played at home this Sunday agianst  the Puerto Rico Islanders. Montreal will be looking to snap a four game winless and scoreless streak.
