USL - Montreal Impact Defeat Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1
What a difference a few wins can make!
The previously bottom dwelling Montreal Impact ( now 3-4-2) earned a 2-1 win against the Vancouver Whitecaps (3-4-2), Sunday, at Swangard Stadium, in Burnaby, British Columbia. The Impact gathered six out of nine points on this three road game trek and are now ranked sixth in the USL First Division standings.
"Everybody worked well. It showed that the guys wanted to win today and we knew that it was going to be a tough night for the Whitecaps.” said Impact interim coach Marc Dos Santos as the 2-1 score was attained prior to the end of the first half.
Eduardo Sebrango scored the first goal of the game at the 20th minute. Following a long pass behind the Whitecaps defense, midfielder Rocco Placentino took a low shot that Whitecaps goalkeeper Jay Nolly blocked, but Sebrango scored off the rebound, registering his second season goal.
Then, after a Marcus Haber goal to tie it up for Vancouver at the 42nd minute, David Testo put the Impact in the lead once again, scoring the winning goal less than . Testo took the Caps by surprise by firing a left footed high shot about 30 meters out that defeated Nolly to his right.
Testo's goal just before the end of the first half, marked the first time in 9 games that the Impact headed to the dressing room with a lead, a feeling I'm sure they will want to repeat going forward.
