Uninspired Impact Loss Raises Dos Santos' Ire
The Montreal Impact’s rank in the NASL conference and play on the pitch both seem to have something on common. They both appear to be going from bad to worse.
The defending champions have recently lost two defenders (Cedric Joqueviel due to personal reasons and most recently Stefano Pesoli, who when talks concerning his future with the team broke down, was allowed to leave the club in mid-season…)
These recent losses, as well as an injury to Adam Braz (hip) have left the Impact with little choice but to insert midfielders Simon Gatti and Philippe Billy aas defenders to try and help out stalwarts Nevio Pizzolitto and Stephen DeRoux.
But defence is not the only problem facing the Impact. Their forwards are not getting the job done filling the opponents’ net.
Marc Dos Santos’ squad has won only 2 games in their last 10 and have scored only 9 goals in that span. One would think that a game against the worst team in the league would help cure all that right?
The Impact not only did not score a single goal against St Louis, but allowed 3 Vs a team that was also dead last in goals for with 8 until this game. Yes, that’s 8 goals scored in 14 games, then 3 scored against Montreal in one night.
"We simply didn’t show up tonight," declared Impact head coach Marc Dos Santos. "We knew what we had to do to win, but we did nothing to get the three points."
"To win games in our league, you have to go to war," added Dos Santos. "And to go to war you need men that are ready to pay the price. We need players that are ready to work every day. It is hard to win, it takes energy and heart. Maybe playing for the Impact is to much pressure for some."
Quite the turnaround from the same coach who only a week ago, asked the media to look at him as to why the team was not performing, as it was he who picked this team to go to war with him. One would hope that the individuals to whom he was referring have taken heed and will perform a turnaround of their own.
Please read on for the team recap.
