Tigres Roar past Juniors 5-1
When the Juniors last met the Tigres it was in Victoriaville and the boys from Montreal handed the 3rd place home team a 4-1 loss. After completing a 5 game road trip with positive results, the Juniors returned home to face those same Tigers. This time though, Victoriaville, with a roster full of NHL prospects, returned the favour, dominated most of the game and easily cruised to a 5 to 1 victory.
With only 1:14 gone in the first period, the Tigers commenced their game-long dominance when Guillaume Goulet scored on Montreal goaltender Jean-Francois Berube, who stopped 21 of 25 shots in the game. Victoriaville would take a two-goal lead when Frederic Tanguay scored through traffic at 12:16.
It didn’t stop in the second and Victoriaville would continue the offence when Maple Leafs prospect Joel Champagne scored one on the power play. Joel Chouinard then got on the score sheet when he sniped one past Jean-Francois Berube at 6:37 of the second. That was it for Bérubé who was replaced by Etienne Marcoux, who ended the night making15 saves on16 shots. Tigers winger Brandon Hynes extended Victoriaville’s lead when he went top-shelf at 17:32 of the second.
In the third period, Juniors forward Eliezer Sherbatov ruined Kevin Poulin’s shutout bid after the puck took an awkward bounce from the glass on the power play at 14:52.
The Juniors, now with a record is at 22-20-0-3 will host the Val-d’Or Foreurs at home on Friday, at 7:35PM, and then face the top-ranked Saint John Sea Dogs on Saturday, at 4:05PM before they head on the road to face the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and Chicoutimi Sagueneens.
