THE MONTREAL IMPACT FACES TORONTO FC THURSDAY AT SAPUTO STADIUM
The Montreal Impact (0-3-0 in Nutrilite Championship action) plays the fourth and last game of this tournament, Thur sday, against Toronto FC (2-1-0), at Saputo Stadium (live at 8 pm: Sportsnet, radio-canada.ca, CKAC Sports, THE TEAM 990; tape delayed at 11 pm: Radio-Canada).
While this game is utterly insignificant as far as the Impact's Nutrilite aspirations are concerned, they will, however, be able to play the role of spoiler as The Vancouver Whitecaps will clinch the Canadian championship, unless Toronto FC wins Thursday’s game by four goals or more. “Even if we are eliminated, the game is significant to us,” Nevio Pizzolitto said. “We don’t want to lose against Toronto, especially not at home in front of our fans. We also want to show that we are at the same level by clinching a first victory against Toronto FC.”
While many players are healing varied injuries (Mauro Biello-clavicle, Adam Braz-thigh, Cédric Joqueviel-thigh, Patrick Leduc-foot and Pa Amadou Gai-thigh) one player that the Impact have been looking forward to seeing back in the line-up is central defender Stefano Pesoli who will be making a return to the pitch after recovering from a knee inury and subsequent off season surgery.
While the Impact will not play all starters, as coach Dos Santos prefers resting some players up for Montreal's next USL game against Vancouver, he does stress that the team he will field should get the job done against Toronto FC, saying “Out of respect for the fans, the players on the field tomorrow will need to play with honour and passion. We will be determined not to give anything to Toronto.”
