The Juniors Fall to the Mighty Ramparts in Their First Regular Season Game 5-1

Written by Nick Murdocco. Posted in Blogs - Nick Murdocco

juniorjerseyThe Montreal Juniors were given their official welcome to the "Q" as they were in Quebec where they faced the Ramparts in their first game of the season. The Juniors appeared to perpetually be a step behind the Ramparts who got off to an early 2 goal lead en route to a 5-1 victory in front of 12701 Rampart supporters.

Quebec scorers were Benjamin Breault who scored 2, including one in the first as well as the lone goal of the second period. Rounding out the Ramparts' scoring was Samuel Carrier, Frédérick Roy and Jonathan-Audy Marchessault.

The lone scorer for the Juniors was veteran right winger Nick Layton, at 13:36 of the third period, however at that point, his goal brought the score to 4-1 in favor of the Ramparts who wasted no time getting their fifth moments later.

Goaltender Jean-François Bérubé faced 34 shots while his counterpart, Charles Lavigne was much less busy having to contend with 23 Montreal shots. Montreal only had two power-play opportunities but were unable to capitalize, as had generally been the case during the pre-season games against Gatineau. Quebec, on the other hand took advantage of Montreal's discipline problems and went 2-6 while with the man advantage.

Absent from the line-up for Montreal were, among others, Veteran Goalie Jake Allen, Angelo Esposito and team captain Matt Fillier.

The Juniors will have to bounce back quickly, and perhaps the best solution after this loss is to get back on the ice and play as quickly as possible. Montreal will have just that opportunity as they head directly to Shawinigan where they will face off against the Cataracte at 4PM this Sunday after which they can regroup for the week until they meet these same Ramparts at home on Saturday, September 20th.
