The First Cuts Are The Deepest
The Canadiens have had the looks that they had wanted to get at some of the players that had absolutely no chance of cracking either the Habs’ or Bulldogs’ line-ups and have consequently announced that some of them would be heading home today.
In all, four, including colossal goaltender Jason Missiaen and recently inked Philippe Lefebvre have been let go.
The Habs will surely be making more of these announcements as the days and the pre-season rolls on as they will have to dwindle that number down to 23 by October 1st.
MONTREAL (September 15, 2009) – The Montreal Canadiens announced today that forward Philippe Lefebvre (Drummondville – QMJHL), defensemen Mac Bennett (Cedar Rapids – USHL) and Joe Stejskal (Dartmouth – ECAC), as well as goaltender Jason Missiaen (Peterborough –OHL) were released from training camp and returned to their respective team.
Fifty (50) players are still at training camp, including five (5) goaltenders, sixteen (16) defensemen and twentynine (29) forwards.
The Canadiens will play five preseason games in five nights, starting this Thursday, September 17 against the Florida Panthers at the Bell Centre.
