MONTREAL – Midfielder David Testo and defender Stephen deRoux were selected Tuesday to the USL-1 All-League Second Team, which is determined on the basis of a vote by the coaches and the general managers of the USL. Testo, 28, is among the All-Leeague teams for the first time in his career. This season, the defensive midfielder was the most used player of the club, playing a total of 26 matches, all as a starter, for a total of 2,235 minutes.
deRoux, 25, is on the All-League teams for the second time in his career. Despite a cheekbone fracture that kept him out from seven games, from July 28 to August 23, he played 22 games as a left lateral defender, including 18 as a starter (1,655 minutes).
“Testo and deRoux fully deserve this nomination. It’s great that their efforts are recognized," commented Impact head coach Marc Dos Santos. “Testo is a player who always gives everything he has and who does it with a lot of heart. He shows great passion and puts a lot of intensity in his work. Furthermore, as a holding midfielder, he plays a position that goes more often than not unnoticed.”
« deRoux went through difficult moments at the beginning of the season but he rapidly found himself and adapted to the team. We believe that next year deRoux will become an even more well-rounded player.”
“It’s a nice recognition for the season performance, but you can’t really win any honours unless you have a good team that backs you,” explained Testo. “I’m lucky and grateful to be surrounded by a great staff and teammates. I’m happy about this recognition, considering the rollercoaster season we lived. Our energies are now on the Puerto Rico Islanders, against which we intend to continue playing to our full potential.”
