Stefano Pesoli, Impact Part Ways
After nearly a season’s worth of injuries to his knee and toe, it appears Stefano Pesoli’s last game played with the Impact, was in fact that, his last game with the Impact.
Contract negotiations have come to a halt a few days prior to the opening of the transfer window as the young Italian defender did not accept the team’s offer for the 2011 season and the two parties have decided to part ways sooner, rather than later.
“We would have hoped to come to an agreement with Stefano. Unfortunately he did not accept our last offer,” said Impact technical director Nick De Santis. “We have accepted that Stefano returns to Italy now to help him find a new club, which would have been difficult after the season, in November. With his departure and also the departure of Joqueviel, we are actively looking for a central defender.”
That’s more than a mouthful. Jocqueviel left the team indefinitely for personal reasons earlier this month and other defenders Hicham Aboubou (also personal reasons) and Adam Braz (hip) have left quite a hole in the formerly tight Impact defending third.
Pesoli, 26, had joined the Impact in 2008 after a tryout with the team during the team’s training camp in Italy. Pesoli played 39 matches with Montreal, all as starter, for a total of 3,420 minutes. In his rookie season he scored two goals in regular season play. This season, he played only one game due to an ankle and a toe injury.
