MONTREAL (June 29, 2010) – Montreal Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier announced today that the team acquired forward Dustin Boyd, goaltender Dan Ellis and future considerations from the Nashville Predators in return for forward Sergei Kostitsyn and future considerations.
Boyd, 23, split the past season between the Calgary Flames and the Predators playing a combined total of 78 games, recording 24 points (11 goals, 13 assists) and had a +6 plus/minus ratio while averaging 12:13 of time on ice. Boyd fired 112 shots on the opposing goal and tallied three game-winning goals.
A gold medalist with Team Canada at the 2006 World Junior Hockey Championship, the 6’0 and 187 lbs centreman completed his fourth NHL season in 2009-10. Since he first joined the NHL back in 2006-07, Boyd amassed a total of 62 regular season points (31 goals and 31 assists) in 210 regular season games, along with 240 shots on goal while 8 of his tallies were game-winning goals. Boyd also added one goal in nine playoff match-ups.
A native of Winnipeg, Boyd was a third-round selection, 98th overall, by the Calgary Flames at the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He was dealt to the Nashville Predators on March 3, 2010.
Ellis, 30, completed his fourth NHL season in 2009-10, recording 15 wins, 13 losses and one overtime loss in 31 games played. He also signed a shutout and maintained a 2.69 goal against average as well as a .909 save percentage.
Since 2003-04, Ellis has a record of 50 wins, including 10 shutouts, in 111 NHL regular season games. The 6’0” and 193 lbs netminder has a career goals against average of 2.64 and a .912 save percentage in the NHL. The netminder led all NHL goaltenders in 2007-08 with a .924 save percentage.
Born in Orangeville, ON, Ellis was a second round pick, 60th selection overall, by the Dallas Stars in 2000. The netminder signed as a free agent with the Nashville Predators on July 5, 2007.
Sergei Kostitsyn played 47 games with the Canadiens in 2009-10, recording 18 points (7 goals and 11 assists) and a +4 plus/minus ratio with an average ice time per game of 14:09.
Since he first joined the NHL, Kostitsyn amassed 68 points (24 goals and 44 helpers), served 123 penalty minutes and maintained a +10 plus/minus ratio in 155 NHL regular season games with the Canadiens.

Be interesting to see how AK reacts over time. Maybe he can find consistency with his worries in another city...
Price needs to be pushed, and Ellis's name was being thrown around regardless of this deal, so they get more time before other teams do to try and tie him up. Like what I a hearing about Boyd and his price tag and size. I think we sign both. PG seems to be steering the ship well, considering he came across to most as a rushed decision without weighing out all the candidates available...
Good on him for being decisive, pro-active and active. Something many of his predecessors lacked...
