Juniors Trade Samuel Grenache To Lewiston, Other Cuts Announced
The Montreal Juniors announced today that they have traded 20 year old forward Samuel Grenache, from Windsor Qc, to the Lewiston MAINEiacs in return of a 3rd round pick in the 2011 QMJHL Entry Draft.
The Juniors also announced their next set of cuts after their second pre-season game that took place last Sunday where the Juniors won 4-3 against the Cataractes in Shawinigan.
Grenache, a 6'0", 200 pound winger played only 18 games for Montreal last season scoring 6 goals and 2 assists. He suffered a long-term injury from season's start that kept him out of the line-up for most of the first half and then slowly caeme on to end the season and was instrumental in playing the role of enforcer in the Juniors' post season, racking up 35 penalty minutes and scoring 2 goals in 9 games played.
As for the hopefuls trying out for the team, forwards Hugo Desharnais-Roux, 6th round pick at the 2009 QMJHL Entry Draft, Marc-Antoine Fréchette, 10th round pick at the 2009 QMJHL Entry Draft and defenseman Vincent Scopelleti (Ste-Thérèse) were released by the team.
Also released today was Christopher Smith, who played 31 games with the Juniors last season. His zero points in that span surely meant that he had to impress in this season's camp in order to make the team and it appears that he did not quite measure up to some of the players also vying for the same spot.
The Juniors will face the Gatineau Olympics at the Bob Birnie arena in Pointe Claire on Friday, August 28th, at 7.35 pm. The two teams will meet again the following day at the Salaberry arena in Valleyfield.
