Rouyn Noranda Has Juniors' Number, Defeat Montreal 4-3

Written by Nick Murdocco. Posted in Blogs - Nick Murdocco

The Montreal Juniors hosted divisional rivals Rouyn-Noranda Huskies this afternoon and although it was Valentine’s day, there was no love shared between these two teams.  The Huskies had won the previous 5 contests and, unfortunately for the Juniors, the 6th was no exception. Led by Sergey Ostapchuk, who scored the game winner, the Huskies skated off to a 4 to 3 victory.

The Huskies got on the board first when Steven Delisle scored at 6:32 of the first period, but the Juniors took the lead shortly thereafter as they got two power play goals from Louis-Marc Aubry and Jeremy Gouchie.  Huskies’ forward Jordan Caron tied it all up for Rouyn-Noranda before heading to the second period.

In the second period, the Juniors would take the lead  again as Gouchie scored his second of the night at  but in a back and forth affair that this game was, Jerome Gauthier-Leduc countered for the Huskies on the power play at 10:07. the teams would head off the ice at the end of the second tied at 3.

But in the third, it was Huskies forward Sergey Ostapchuk fired the puck past Montreal Goalie Jean-Francois Bérubé for his eighteenth of the year and eventual game winner at 17:09.

The Juniors are now at 25-25-2-3 and have 3 more home games before they head back out on the road, as the regular season begins to draw to a close.

The Chicoutimi Sagueneens will visit Montreal on Wednesday at 7:35 p.m.  The Victoriaville Tigers will be at the Auditorium this Friday, also at 7:35, while the Juniors will host the Gatineau Olympiques Sunday, February 21, at 4:05 p.m.
