Roberto Brown Released By Montreal Impact
Only days after coach Marc Dos Santos stated « to go to war you need men that are ready to pay the price. We need players that are ready to work every day. It is hard to win, it takes energy and heart. Maybe playing for the Impact is too much pressure for some." The Montreal Impact have released striker Roberto Brown.
Team technical director Nick De Santis made a point to mention that “The recent struggles of the team cannot be blamed simply on the performances of Roberto Brown." But went on to say that although Brown had provided the Impact many great goals and moments, his play since the beginning of the season had not lived up to the team’s expectations.
Brown, had, in fact provided Impact fans with some inspired soccer over the years. This was his 4th season in Montreal. In 2009, he helped the club win its third playoff championship and was named MVP of the championship final against Vancouver. This season however, started with a team and league suspension after he punched a Toronto FC defender during a Canadian Nutrilite Championship game. The Impact won none of those 4 games versus Vancouver and Toronto.
With the Transfer Window set to open Thursday July 15th, one would hope the Impact will look to bolster their depleted defence with the recent losses of Cedric Joqueviel (personal reasons) and Stefano Pesoli (released after contract talks broke down) as well as adding some firepower at the striker position.
